From One Woman’s Courage to a Movement for Change
In 2010, Mrs. Shahida Shaikh began her journey as an individual social worker in the slums of Mumbai, Maharashtra. With no office, no funding, and only unwavering compassion, she started where the need was greatest — feeding hungry children, arranging free tuition for dropouts, and organizing health camps with local doctors.
500+ children supported in education, 12 free medical camps conducted, 30+ women trained in basic tailoring.
Earned trust as “Didi” of the community — proving that change begins with showing up, every single day.
The work expanded from emergency aid to sustainable solutions. Shahida began mobilizing youth volunteers, forming the first informal self-help groups for women, and initiating tree plantation drives in tribal hamlets. She personally negotiated with schools for fee waivers and with hospitals for free treatment of poor patients.
2,000+ people reached through health & education drives, 1,500+ trees planted, 5 SHGs formed with 60 women earning first incomes.
Recognized by local authorities for flood relief work — first time her efforts were seen beyond the basti.
By now, the work demanded structure. Shahida started documenting cases, training community volunteers, and linking families to government schemes. Focus areas deepened: digital literacy for youth, legal aid for women facing violence, and organic farming demos for tribal farmers. She became the bridge between “last-mile citizens” and “first-mile governance.”
8,000+ lives touched, 200 youth trained in computers, 300 farmers introduced to organic practices, 1 women’s hostel initiated.
Realized individual effort had limits — the dream needed an institution.
In 2019, Shahida formalized her mission by registering Wisdome Welfare Foundation — “wisdom” to choose the right path, “welfare” to walk it with people. COVID-19 hit within months. The new NGO became a lifeline — distributing 50,000+ cooked meals, 10,000 ration kits, oxygen cylinders, and running vaccination awareness in red zones.
1 Lakh+ people served during pandemic, 3 digital learning centres launched, 10 telehealth camps in Maharashtra villages.
Transformed from social worker to institution leader — mobilizing donors, doctors, and CSR partners for scale.
Post-pandemic, Wisdome focused on rebuilding with resilience. Launched solar-powered Smart Classrooms & Telehealth Kiosks in 15 villages. Trained 500+ women in green skills — solar, EV, organic farming. Built rainwater harvesting structures, started e-waste recycling units, and opened skill hubs for youth. Partnerships with local bodies and corporates multiplied impact.
25,000+ direct beneficiaries yearly, 10,000+ trees planted, 20 villages water-secure, 400+ women now micro-entrepreneurs.
Featured in district development reports as “Model NGO for Rural Transformation.” Shahida Shaikh invited to policy forums on NEP 2020 & Digital India.
Today, Wisdome Welfare Foundation works across Education, Healthcare, Women’s Empowerment, Environment, Rural Infrastructure, and Disaster Relief — in Maharashtra. From one woman in 2010 to a team of 50+ volunteers and experts, the NGO now runs 30+ programs annually.
2 Lakh+ lives touched, 25+ villages with digital/green infrastructure, 1,000+ women financially independent, 15,000+ trees surviving, 100+ youth in green jobs.
Earned 80G, CSR-1, and government trust — ready for national-scale projects.
The journey doesn’t stop here. Under Shahida Shaikh’s leadership, Wisdome is now preparing for bigger programs:
100 Smart Villages equipped with solar, digital, health & skill infrastructure.
National Green Livelihood Mission — training 5,000 youth in solar, EV & organic sectors.
Women Enterprise Hubs in every district served — scaling SHGs to registered companies.
Disaster-Ready Communities with early warning systems & climate-resilient housing.
Wisdome Schools of Excellence blending academics, vocational skills, sports & climate education.
What began as one woman’s fight against hunger and illiteracy in 2010 has become Wisdome Welfare Foundation — a movement rebuilding lives, villages, and futures through education, health, livelihood, and sustainability.
